Political Roundtable: News, Opinion and Commentary

Wow. Lots of news out of the Republican Party of Virginia State Convention at the Richmond Convention Centre today.

Congratulations to Jim Gilmore on his nomination to be the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate seat. It was a narrow win … the Marshall supporters were louder and I thought Gilmore had possibly lost … but he eeked out a win in the end with 66 votes over Marshall.

Congratulations to Jeff Frederick on his win as RPV Chairman. The vote count was not released but was a substantial win. Jeff worked hard. He was all over the Commonwealth. He was in the 6th District and we got to know him and his campaign worker, Matt Kandrach, well. He listened. When he spoke it was of a plan to win again for Republicans. He’s young. He’s enthusiastic. He’s got a proven winning record against the odds in his Northern Virginia House seat.

To those who would quickly dismiss Jeff, I would say to give him a chance. Sometimes to be effective you must step on toes. It sounds as if he has stepped on toes … but he has also delivered when pushing the envelope.

He may be the Democrats’ worst nightmare because he is going to go after their candidates with a vengence. The winds of change are in the Republican air these days.

I would like to thank John Hager for all he did for RPV. We are very much appreciative.

Bloggers were all over the place. Met Jim Hoeft who live-blogged from the press table. Saw Shaun Kenney often … met Alton Foley of I’m Not Emeril … saw Catherine Dickson of Powhatan Life and United Conservatives … Maxfield was there … Chris Green of Spank That Donkey was there … I met DJ McGuire of Right-Wing Liberal … also met Ron from Isophorone. Talked with James Atticus Bowden at length about various conservative issues. I missed other boggers who attended, from what I’ve read on the blogs. Spent too long in the Bolling-McDonnell “birthday suite” Friday night and missed the blogger hospitality suite.

Augusta Chairman Kurt Michael, Staunton Chairwoman Anne Taetzsch, and Waynesboro Chairman Chris Darden were there working the floor to pass out and count ballots.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte, Delegate Steve Landes, Delegate Chris Saxman, and Delegate Ben Cline were all there as was Sen. Mark Obenshain.

Saw many familiar faces and had fun with everyone. It was a productive convention and shapes the Party in a different way than many thought it would be.

Now it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work for the Fall elections.

More to follow with lots of convention photos….

Hypocritical DNC

The Democratic National Convention continues to try to limit the voters’ voice of Michigan and Florida, while still asking for their vote in November. The voters had nothing to do with the internal rules of the Democratic Party. The voters had nothing to do with the changing the date of the primary. So why should the voters of two states be excluded from the Democratic process.

Why would anyone from Michigan or Florida vote for Obama? He was the one who stood in the way of the revote. He stood in the way of all the votes being counted because he was afraid it would help Clinton. The DNC helped their heir apparent by denying Michigan and Florida voters their Constitutional right of representation.

Suddenly DNC realized that they would need Michigan and Florida to win the White House that they began to make nice. They are holding hearings to give both states reconsideration. As I write this, Florida’s delegates have been seated with only a half vote. The DNC is telling Florida that your citizens are not equal to the rest of the country–that the people of Florida will be denied their Constitutional rights as equal citizens.

The debate on Michigan has just started. The proposed compromise is to give Obama delegates won by Clinton and to also give cut the weight of each delegate to half. Once again, the DNC has their fingers on the scale. It is in Democratic Bylaws that delegates can’t be shifted from one candidate or category from one to another, which is exactly what is proposed. The compromise would take four delegates be taken from Clinton to Obama; in addition, all of the uncommitted delegates would go to Obama. In Michigan, 55% percent of the votes went to Clinton. Obama received none because he chose to take his name off the ballet. Undeclared received 40% of the votes. Each of the delegates will only receive a half vote.

Senator Clinton as reserved her right to challenge the committee‘s decision. For months, the DNC has been corrupting the system by systematically supporting Obama over Clinton due to gender bias. The good old boys would prefer to have a penis in office instead of the best candidate. I would hope that if the DNC continues to subvert the political system by not fully seating the Michigan and Florida delegates, then I would ask Senator Clinton to run as an independent.

The committee has voted. The voters in both states have lost part of their citizenship. So now, the DNC will be courting these same voters in November. What hypocrites! If they think the voters in either state will just forgive and forget, they are sadly mistaken.

Theresa Chaze has been described as the woman who plays with dragons, especially the dragons of the mind. She leads her readers to magical realms and others worlds. Her work is based on her philosophy that all peoples can live together in peace as long as we come from respect, not only for ourselves but those who follow different paths or beliefs. Her work has been compared to Marion Zimmer Bradley and Anne McCaffrey with an adult version of Harry Potter mixed in.

A few weeks ago Hillary Clinton proclaimed that if the Democrat primary process had the Republicans’ rules she’d already had won the nomination. In a related yet way less reported story, if soccer was baseball you wouldn’t get a point for kicking a goal.

She was asserting that she is the better candidate because the general election is based on states won not the popular vote. This week Hillary says she should be the Democratic Party’s nominee because she leads Barack Obama in the popular vote.

In less than a month Hillary has said that she is the better candidate because she leads in the popular vote and because the popular vote doesn’t matter.

“I have never seen a candidate so disrespected…”
