Finn Williams’ timing for arriving in Mr. Fluck Mill’s and my life has been funny…
learning that we were pregnant coincided with exactly when everyone was curious as to whether or not I would run for office. Wanting to keep everything private during the first trimester turned out to be entertaining and frustrating at times. I still remember peoples’ quizzical faces as they sensed there might be more to the level of secrecy I maintained than they could make sense of.
Then transitioning to the third trimester coincided with the Primary Election…and, naturally, many of you know that Finn arrived a whopping two months early! So, that was a very “exciting” time.
And now as I get geared up for getting back into public life, the timing is not as I would have expected. Luckily, to bolster my confidence (and Finn’s too!) it is World Breastfeeding Week!
Wow! Pretty cool!
You can read more about it at Nature Mom’s Blog.
The Indiana State Task Force on Breastfeeding provides this online pdf of information about breastfeeding called “Born to Be Breastfeed, A Call to Action to Promote Breastfeeding in Indiana” and you can also read up on other related issues at the Indiana Perinatal Network site.
In the “Call to Action” document you’ll see some inspiring information about the benefits to workplaces and employers who support breastfeeding Moms. It helps their babies and the whole family—ultimately helping the workplace to be a good, healthy place.
The County Commissioners have recognized the most recent state legislation supporting, and requiring, lactation rooms in the workplace setting. It’s my hope that by the end of this year we see that County Government does even more, even better, than just meeting the bare minimum requirements for family-friendly policies!
