I have to say I’m already having some ping pong action going on in my head with this whole “Obama Army” remaining active to continue to work on issues.
Actually, my greatest concern is that the Obama campaign–as all presidential campaigns in recent history- blew off every other dem candidate running. Oh, we had some yard signs available in the Obama offices, some lit lying around and a few posters up on the walls for these lower candidates. But, the most critical things we could have done for all the other progressive candidates was not only ignored but blatantly discouraged. When people went out to drop lit other candidates lit was left out. When phone banks were dialing away to thousands of households it was .
One field organizer told me flat out he thought all the other candidates were not good at all -I’m paraphrasing because what he actually said isn’t that kind, nor do I want to repeat it.
Hmm, seems that wasn’t just his opinion. It must have come from up above because the field youngsters really don’t call any shots.
Since I live in a flaming red area anyone who could get elected and press for a progressive agenda beats what I have for state representation, and my US Rep is Ryan……so I basically live where I have no representation on issues near and dear to my heart (yes, contrary to popular belief I do have a heart). Obviously, my needs didn’t matter to the Obama campaign. But, I did give money (more than most in my income bracket) and volunteer for some campaign activities because I’m just not that way. Meaning I’m not so arrogant to think that “my” candidate is the only one that matters. I can see past the short term and the narrow view of these campaigns.
Alas, it appears that there already is a definite food chain within an unbreakable political clique. The Obama team is putting out a call for people to run for office right now. But, is it a real call to serve as a candidate? Or is it just the next step in keeping that food chain fed with the time, money and labor of the political plankton?
At this time I have no real evidence of any misdirection going on. But, I got that gut feeling going strong. And, I intend on keeping track of every promise, of every action and pushing hard to keep things clean and transparent. After all I’ve felt and said about the chiefly opaque and occasionally hazy current conservative movement I would be just another hypocrite if I didn’t scrutinize my own side as earnestly.
Stay tuned and we’ll see if all I need is some Tums or if I end up going rogue.
