I talked to Sam Coppersmith about a rumor I heard that he was thinking about running for Democratic Party chair. No dice on that one. Remember that candidates are required to be on the State Committee, and Coppersmith is not even a Precinct Committeeperson. Coppersmith had previously served two years as Democratic Party Chair, and a term in congress. Quoth Sam: “I have already paid my debt to society.”

I have also heard Jim Pederson’s name bandied about, which leaves me to wonder if every living former chairman who hasn’t fled the state is a potential candidate.
