Ohio has been an active stage for tort reform, especially in asbestos and other toxic tort cases. Now some Republicans are supporting a bill that would create additional hurdles for asbestos claimants. But some supreme court justices have noted how difficult is can be already to make a claim in Ohio for asbestos-related injuries, and the Democratic governor has threatened to veto the proposed bill. The focus of the bill is to force the claimants to reveal detailed information about their submissions to bankruptcy trusts.
So far, support for and opposition to the bill has divided along party lines.
