Political Roundtable: News, Opinion and Commentary
My Top 3

This couldn’t have come a moment sooner.

“I am shocked and appalled that anyone would think this is appropriate, as it clearly does not move us in the right direction.“

Chip Saltsman sent RNC members the parody CD “We Hate the USA” for Christmas, which includes the controversial tune. He defended his decision Friday, telling CNN the song was clearly intended as a joke.

“I think most people recognize political satire when they see it,“ Saltsman told CNN. “I think RNC members understand that.“

Saltsman, a former chair of the Tennessee Republican Party, was a top advisor to former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and managed former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign.

This is a good faith showing, but the real work begins when the party divorces itself from the likes of Ruch Limbaugh as a “political spokesperson”. I agree with Colin Powell, that the GOP has become a party of isolationists, alienating almost anyone and everyone at this point. People like Rush Limbaugh pimping these little episodes are really doing the party an injustice at this point, pimping racial vitriol under the disguise of “equality”.

Ok, I get it that this character Shanklin had his intention completely misunderstood, and the song is being blown out of proportion. However, let me ask you, will anyone care to dig into this anymore than hearing the newsbyte and hearing what sounds like a racial slander directed at BHO? Hardly. It will just be another slander that leaves the party with egg on it’s face.
