You say you’re not into standing around for hours in the freezing cold with a few million other people so you can say you were at Barack Obama’s inauguration? You’re not alone. I’m making a list O.C. peeps who are making the trip so I’ll have some homies to talk to when I’m back there reporting on the event. I called the chairman of the Democratic Party of Orange County, Frank Barbaro, and he said he’s been offered “VVIP” tickets but doesn’t think he’ll make the trip.
He recounted standing in line for six hours in August to get into Mile High Stadium to hear Obama’s convention speech, and noted that there were only 78,000 people at that event.
“I’m going to get a better view of it on TV than with 2 million people freezing their everythings off,” Barbaro said.
Of course, there are plenty of people psyched up for the inauguration. Wylie Aitken, for instance, is taking his wife, his three kids and his three kids’ spouses. Aitken is chairman of the Democratic Foundation of Orange County, which is hosting an event for county residents in D.C. on Jan. 18. If you’re going, would you shoot me an email so I can talk to you about the event. mwisckol@ocregister.com
